FAQ

Kitting & Assembly FAQs

What is the difference between kitting and assembly?
The two go hand in hand. Kitting is grouping several separate SKUs into one new sellable unit — a multipack, gift set or subscription box — while assembly is the value-added work of building, ticketing and finishing that unit to spec. At OutBox3PL both happen together at our Western Sydney warehouse: we combine multiple SKUs into a single, scan-ready unit with consistent quality control, ready to sell or ship.
Can you combine multiple SKUs into one barcode for retail or marketplace sale?
Yes. We bundle multiple components into a single scan-ready unit with its own ticketing and labelling, so multipacks, gift sets and retail-ready displays arrive compliant and floor-ready. Once built, the finished kit can be shelved and sold as one SKU, then flow straight into pick, pack and dispatch from the same stock pool with no separate handover. See pick & pack for how kitted units ship.
Do you handle limited-run promotional and seasonal packs?
We do. Limited-run promo packs, sample sets and seasonal bundles are assembled on demand — we scale a project up for a campaign and break it back down afterwards, with full progress visibility by project the whole way through. That flexibility means you can run a short campaign build without committing to permanent packaging changes, and reuse the components once the promotion ends.
Can I supply my own cartons, or do you choose the packaging?
Either works. You can supply your own branded boxes and inserts, or let our carton-selection software choose the right pack for each build. The software optimises packing on bulky and fragile items to protect the goods and minimise dimensional weight, which keeps your shipping spend down. From electric bikes and flat-pack furniture to cosmetics and vitamins, each build is packed correctly the first time.
How is kitting and assembly charged?
Assembly work depends on the components, the number of steps per unit and the finish you need, so pricing is quoted to your specific build rather than a flat per-box rate. There is no lock-in, and kitted stock feeds your store, marketplace and B2B orders from one pool, which avoids duplicate storage costs. Send us your build spec and we will price it — try the quote calculator for an estimate.
